From these two reasons, we turn to the consequences. Some primary schools announced that they will close their doors at the beginning of next year. They could not find enough teachers so they can no longer guarantee good education. So it’s very important that this problem will be solved very quickly, otherwise more schools will have to close their doors in the future! This will impact students and the quality of education.

At first I will explain to you what teacher shortage actually is. After that I will give you some of the reasons for this shortage and look at the consequences. At last we will look at which measures the government will have to take to solve the problems. I will try to answer all of your questions after my presentation.

Today I am going to tell you something about teacher shortage. The reason why I have chosen this subject is because I want to become a teacher myself on a primary school. I think that I was ten years old when I said that I want to become a teacher. I would like to work with children and teach them something.

Now let’s take a look at the reasons for the teacher shortage. First of all, the shortage is caused by the high workload, which has an effect on the way of working. This also has an effect on the teachers private life. Because of this high workload they are often tired when they got home and there they also have to do a lot of lesson-related tasks. For instance, they have to prepare the lessons they give, check homework and make the tests for the students. Also there are the school trips which must be arranged by the teachers. Due to the high workload, teachers often end up ill at home.

The second major reason for the teacher shortage is, of course, the salary. There are many teachers who think the salary in primary education is too low in comparison with the salary from teachers in secondary education or other jobs. The salary makes it unattractive to become a teacher. Why should you choose for a study with which you will earn a low salary in the future? Also the profession as a teacher is seen as difficult.

So, we can safely say that it is highly necessary that measures are taken by the government to make it more attractive to become a teacher. The government can take the following measures, for example, they have to lower the tuition fees for new students. Another measure they can take is, to make it more attractive for people who want to change jobs, is to offer a shortened study so that they can start their new job as a teacher faster. Also they have to make more money available for education so that salaries can be raised.
